Case Description
I just had an apicoectomy after a root canal/crown that continued to hurt; the endodontist said I probably have cracks in the root and I will eventually lose the tooth.
My dental insurance ran out months ago. How much cost am I in for? What are the pros and cons of a bridge vs. an implant? How bad would it be to wait 6 months for my new dental plan year?
Thanks.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hello,The cost of a bridge vs. implant is usually 80/100 for the bridge versus implant. There is usually some leeway depending on the surgeon/restorative dentist you are working with. If you are under 50 than usually the implant is your best option as it will last 30+ years as opposed to a bridge which lasts from 8-15 years. It would not be terrible for you to wait 6 months so long as the tooth was removed ahead of time, because leaving an infected tooth in place can result in bone loss which will necessitate bone grafting in the future. Cost Estimate: $$3000 - 5000
Implant would be a #1 choice (for a bridge the teeth on each side of the missing tooth need to be preapared ("shaved") to accept crowns). It is imperative to prepare the site during an extraction to save as much bone as possible (and even add bone - fill the socket of the tooth with "artificial" bone - bone graft) ($600). You have to make your decision with help of your dentist - there are many things to concider (how "high" is your smile line, what condition the teeth next to the problem tooth are in, how good is bone quality...)After extraction you may have a temporary tooth replacement for the time needed for area to heal and then for an implant to heal. ($300)Implant placement ($2000-3000) and a crown ($1200-2000) may be placed "immediatly" after extraction, but taking the history of the tooth ( infection in the bone around it) - it would be contraindicated.Bridge would cost around $3000-4000, but you have to have teeth next to the problem tooth prepped. They may develop decay and bridge may need to be replaced every 5 years. Implants do not decay.Any monetary help from your insurance plan will be good for you. It is multyple step procedure. But do not postpone it for long - if there is infection around the tooth, it may cause bone resorbtion and limit your options.
